The Lakes Submenu

The Lakes

There are so many places to explore at Caughnawana.  Members have spent lifetimes journeying through the vast park and yet with every visit can search out a new and undiscovered destination.   The following describes some of the lakes and ponds:

Lake Caughnawana

The lake is productive for Grey and Speckle Trout and is designated as “fly fishing only.”  The club operates a number of boats for member use.

Blue Lake or Lac Bleu

This lake is accessible by a simple 100 metre portage from the northwest end of Lake Caughnawana.  It has both Grey and Speckle Trout and is ‘hardware’ friendly.  There are a number of spots on the lake to set up a shore lunch.

Blue Lake is the largest body of water at Caughnawana and members should be reminded to be very careful in times of bad weather.

The club maintains a boat portage system (which includes a boat trailer connected to a golf cart) to allow members to take their boats from Lake Caughnawana to Blue Lake over the portage.   Be sure to ask for the key at the clubhouse. Please handle with care as the system is easily damaged through rough usage.

Remember that if you are travelling on Lake Caughnawana with Blue Lake as your destination you must stowe all fishing hardware and weights etc in closed tackle box and travel by direct route to the docks.  Lake Caughnawana is a “fly fishing only” lake and hardware, live bait, weights, spinning rods, reels, etc are not permitted.  The club has secured authorization to travel on Lake Caughnawana with hardware etc (with the intent of going to Blue Lake) and we do not wish to jeopardize this privledge.

Green Lake or Lac Maganasippi

This lake is accessible by portage from the South East end of Lake Caughnawana, or by road from the main camp.  If you decide to portage, the walk is about 15 minutes with a moderate hill to overcome.  If you drive, it will take you about 20 minutes.  The club maintains boats with outboards at the portage site, and two boats at the road access site.  Grey trout are plentiful here and are noted for their salmon-like pink flesh (due to feeding on freshwater shrimp).  The lake is designated as “fly fishing only”.

The Twin Ponds  –  Upper and Lower

These ponds are accessible by a 20 minute easy walking portage.  The club maintains two canoes in Lower Twin and one more in Upper Twin.  The ponds are renowned for their Speckle Trout and are designated as “fly fishing only”.

There are many more lakes and ponds worth discovering and are best done so with input from another member.  So ask about the ponds, Hamilton, or The Gardens, and you’ll be sure to get the inside scoop on more of Quebec’s finest fishing.
